- To prepare comforters with the tools and education needed to be present to the bereaved
- To develop parish-based comfort programs tailored to local needs and to use the gifts and talents of parish staff and members
- To support on-going parish grief care programs through continuing education and expert resources
- To care for grieving people by sponsoring support groups and individual grief counseling
- To assist participants of this intensive training course to become skilled in training ministers of consolation in their local communities
