National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved

From the Board of Trustees of the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc.

February 2013

Dear NCMB Members: It has been some time since you have heard from us and, with this letter; I want to share some positive and hopeful news. Like many smaller organizations, NCMB has struggled financially. For 25 years, NCMB has been the premier provider of training, education and formation in bereavement ministry within the Catholic Church. Our financial support has come primarily from you, our members, and from grants. We have done our best to be good stewards of both finances and, most importantly, faith in our work in the Ministry of Consolation.

Lately, grantors are refocusing their financial resources to larger organizations with the potential for broader outreach; as a result, smaller organizations like NCMB are less likely to receive grant money. We also know there has been a significant increase in resources for working with the bereaved. Though not all are Catholic/faith based resources, they are also valuable and beneficial in working with the bereaved. As a result, the economic reality for NCMB is that we are no longer able to financially sustain the organization. The Ministry of Consolation training, education and formation opportunities and resources, however, will remain available.

The Ministry of Consolation will now be provided through the Servants of Mary, located in Omaha, Nebraska. Their charism is compassion, which is the core foundation of the Ministry of Consolation and NCMB is grateful and confident they will guide and continue to help grow this ministry.

The transition to the Servants of Mary is in process. There will likely be some growing pains and we will do everything we can to make this as seamless a transition as possible. We ask for your understanding and patience through the process. Our website will remain for informative content only and those using it will be redirected to the Servants of Mary website at www.osms.org. The Servants of Mary can also be contacted at 402.951.3093 or bereavement@osms.org.

On behalf of the the Board of Trustees, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to all our members who have so faithfully supported the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc. for the past quarter of a century. The lives of all the bereaved, their loved ones who have gone before us and all of you who have ministered to them, will remain in the hearts and prayers of all of us who have served this organization.

With our deepest gratitude and God's blessings to you,

The Board of Trustees of the National Catholic Ministry to the Bereaved, Inc.
